Jennifer Osburn

The Island School welcomes Jennifer Osburn as the first grade teaching assistant. Jenn will work as the teaching assistant to Cindy Brickley four days a week, then serve as the classroom teacher on Friday with Dave Leedy as her assistant. Jenn has a Master’s Degree in Teaching and a Washington State Professional Education Certificate with a K through 8 elementary education endorsement. She has ten years of experience teaching and/or working as a counselor. Jenn is a perfect fit for the first grade position, and we welcome her as a colleague and member of our community.

George Shannon

We welcome George Shannon as our part-time school librarian. Some of you already know George as a reading volunteer at The Island School. He is a beloved author who has published 40 books, including 30 popular picture books. He has taught a number of writing workshops, is a professional storyteller, and received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Pacific Northwest Writers Association. George not only has his B.S. degree in Education and Library Science, he also has his M.S.L.S. degree in Children’s Literature and Children’s Services. He has served as a children’s librarian at an elementary school and a public library in Kentucky. We feel fortunate, indeed, to welcome him into The Island School community.
