We are delighted to announce that Katey Rissi, our current Extended Day Coordinator, will add the Art Teacher role to her duties beginning in the 2020-2021 school year. Katey currently offers Art Club during Extended Day and has extensive experience offering art classes to children and adults. Katey came to The Island School after directing the arts and educational programs at The Bainbridge Island Boys and Girls Club. She is also a visual artist, working in a variety of mediums including printmaking, collage, photography, and illustration. In addition to her artmaking practice, she teaches art and ecology workshops to children and adults. Katey believes in giving youth agency and creative freedom, and creates projects that are inquiry-based and open-ended. She loves employing zero waste and creative reuse into projects with kids, and is passionate about nurturing a love for the outdoors and the environment. She loves the intersections of science, art, activism and social emotional learning.

Please join us in congratulating Katey on her new role beginning next Fall!
