Endowment

The Island School has a modest endowment, established in 1997. An endowment is a fund in which the original funds are invested and the principal remains intact. A portion of the interest is distributed annually to the operating budget. Gifts invested in our endowment fund continue to grow because the original funds are invested and only a portion of the interest income is distributed to operating costs.

Financially, an endowment fund significantly benefits the school by providing a secure base of resources. Endowment facilitates long-term financial planning.

Organizationally, a sizeable endowment ensures permanent financial sustainability for the school and is one of the most effective barometers of any school’s long-term sustainability in unpredictable times.
